7 golongan dinaungi Allah pada hari kiamat (hadith)

Tajuk : Tujuh Golongan Insan Contoh
http://ii.islam.gov.my/hadith/hadith1.asp?keyID=207

Daydream achiever

Daydream achiever,  By Jonah Lehrer, The Boston Globe
A wandering mind can do important work, scientists are learning - and may even be essential

One of the simplest ways to foster creativity, then, may be to take daydreams more seriously. Even the mundane daydreams that occur hundreds of times a day are helping us plan for the future, interact with others, and solidify our own sense of self. And when we are stuck on a particularly difficult problem, a good daydream isn't just an escape - it may be the most productive thing we can do.

Bing Augmented Maps

Microsoft Adds "Augmented Reality" to Bing Maps, Technology Review
http://www.technologyreview.com/blog/editors/24800/?a=f
Microsoft just added an interesting new feature to Bing Maps--augmented reality. Actually, it's a bit more like augmented reality in reverse.

A new function, called Streetside Photos, takes real images and video clips and neatly stitches them onto the Bing Map's street-level view, using a clever combination of geolocation information (from a GPS-enabled device, or added manually by the user) and imaging-matching algorithms.

IEEE 802

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802
IEEE 802 refers to a family of IEEE standards dealing with local area networks and metropolitan area networks.

The services and protocols specified in IEEE 802 map to the lower two layers (Data Link and Physical) of the seven-layer OSI networking reference model. In fact, IEEE 802 splits the OSI Data Link Layer into two sub-layers named Logical Link Control (LLC) and Media Access Control (MAC) , so that the layers can be listed like this:
  • Data link layer (LLC Sublayer,MAC Sublayer)
  • Physical layer
IEEE 802.3 Ethernet
IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN (WLAN) & Mesh (Wi-Fi certification)
IEEE 802.15 Wireless PAN
IEEE 802.15.1 Bluetooth certification
IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee certification
IEEE 802.16 Broadband Wireless Access (WiMAX certification)
IEEE 802.20 Mobile Broadband Wireless Access
IEEE 802.22 Wireless Regional Area Network

You've got to work on important problems.

Richard Hamming "You and Your Research",
Transcription of the Bell Communications Research Colloquium Seminar, 7 March 1986
http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~robins/YouAndYourResearch.html
... And I started asking, "What are the important problems of your field?" And after a week or so, "What important problems are you working on?" And after some more time I came in one day and said, "If what you are doing is not important, and if you don't think it is going to lead to something important, why are you at Bell Labs working on it?" ...

... If you do not work on an important problem, it's unlikely you'll do important work. It's perfectly obvious.

Good and Bad Procrastination, December 2005, Paul Graham
http://paulgraham.com/procrastination.html
There are three variants of procrastination, depending on what you do instead of working on something: you could work on (a) nothing, (b) something less important, or (c) something more important. That last type, I'd argue, is good rocrastination.

Good procrastination is avoiding errands to do real work.
Good in a sense, at least. The people who want you to do the errands won't think it's good.

In his famous essay You and Your Research (which I recommend to anyone ambitious, no matter what they're working on),

Richard Hamming suggests that you ask yourself three questions:
- What are the most important problems in your field?
- Are you working on one of them?
- Why not?

What's the best thing you could be working on, and why aren't you?

bersabarlah dengan ujian...

"Demi sesungguhnya!

Sedangkan Tony Buzan berkata dalam bukunya Make The Most of Your Mind, "Otak ibarat raksasa yang sedang tidur."

Can birds fly in the rain?

FLYING IN THE RAIN - Those Amazing Birds
http://www.norcalblogs.com/birds/2010/01/flying-in-the-rain.html
Birds are waterproof. Their feathers, made of protein similar to our fingernails, have interlocking barbs to make them both flexible and water resistant. Feathers overlap one another like roofing tiles to make the bird both aerodynamic and water repellent. Birds also have an oil gland at the base of their tail which they use to put a waterproof coating on their feathers.

So birds do fairly well during a rainstorm, at least for a short time.

BigDog - An amazing four legs robot

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BigDog
BigDog is a dynamically stable quadruped robot created in 2005 by Boston Dynamics with Foster-Miller, the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the Harvard University Concord Field Station. BigDog is funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in the hopes that it will be able to serve as a robotic pack mule to accompany soldiers in terrain too rough for conventional vehicles. Instead of wheels or treads, BigDog uses four legs for movement, allowing it to move across surfaces that would defeat wheels. The legs contain a variety of sensors, including joint position and ground contact. BigDog also features a laser gyroscope and a stereo vision system.

bibliophile (book lover)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibliophilia
Bibliophilia is the love of books. Accordingly a bibliophile is an individual who loves books, especially "for qualities of format." A bookworm loves books for their content, or otherwise loves reading. Bibliophilia is generally considered to be an incorrect usage; but some would merely call it a recent one. The practice of loving or collecting books is dubbed bibliophilism, and the adjective form of the term is bibliophilic. Also, a bibliophile may be a book collector.
Bibliophilia is not to be confused with bibliomania, an obsessive-compulsive disorder involving the collecting of books to the point where social relations or health are damaged, and in which the mere fact that an object is a book is sufficient for it to be collected or loved.
